Grammar Notes

On Biden’s translated tweet, we find “pasó el día jugando” (spent the day playing). In our GRAMMAR LESSON ON THE SPANISH GERUNDIO, we explain this construction. “Pasar” + Gerundio = to spend time doing something.

Trump’s tweet includes “están bajando”, which is of course PRESENT PROGRESSIVE, a tense that also includes the Gerundio form.

Colbert’s tweet begins with “todavía no” (not yet, still not). READ OUR LESSON ABOUT WORDS “YA” AND “TODAVÍA”.

Finally, in Ellen’s tweet, “nonagésimo” is an ordinal number. LEARN THEM ALL!
