Animals in Spanish – Vocabulary and Phrases

If you are learning Spanish, pretty soon you are going to want to talk about everybody’s favorite topic: animals. 🙈

In this post we are going to learn the basic terms about animals. We will start with a description of a lion using easy sentences. Then we provide several vocabulary lists of animals and their body parts.

Phrases: Describing an animal

For example, here are some sentences we can use to describe a lion 🦁 in Spanish:

Esto es un león.
This is a lion.

El león es un mamífero que vive en el centro y el sur de África.
The lion is a mammal that lives in central and southern Africa.

Es fuerte y corre muy rápido.
It is strong and runs very fast.

Tiene largos colmillos.
It has long fangs.

Los machos tienen una larga melena.
Males have a long mane.

Los leones son carnívoros. Se alimentan principalmente de otros mamíferos, como cebras o gacelas.
Lions are carnivores. They feed mainly on other mammals, such as zebras or gazelles.
