However it exists, and so the Spanish student needs to learn it :) In this lesson, we will learn about Spanish neuter article "lo", its different meanings and its uses, providing example sentences. At the end you'll find an exercise for practice. "Lo" meaning "the thing" or "the things" The article "lo" can serve as a substitute for "la cosa" (the thing) or "las cosas" (the things). Be using "lo", we can make certain sentences shorter and more elegant. Look: Lo importante es estudiar mucho.La cosa importante es estudiar muchoBoth sentences mean "The important thing is to study a lot". By changing "la cosa" for "lo", the sentence becomes shorter. Lo m\u00e1s bonito es el centro de la ciudad.La cosa m\u00e1s bonita es el centro de la ciudad.Both mean "The most beautiful thing is the city center". No entiendo lo que dices.No entiendo las cosas que dices.Both mean "I don\u2019t understand what you say (the things that you say)". Lo que quiero es jugar.La cosa que quiero es jugar.Both mean "What I want (the thing that I want) is to play". Note: All adjectives connected to "lo" must be in masculine singular form. For example, in one of the sentences above, "la cosa m\u00e1s bonita" becomes "lo m\u00e1s bonito". "Lo" to emphasize a quality We can use "lo" before an adjective or an adverb, in order to emphasize a certain quality. In this type of sentence, we also need to place "que" after the adjective or adverb: Es incre\u00edble lo inteligente que eres.It\u2019s incredible how intelligent you are.Me gusta lo despacio que hablas.I like how slow you talk.
